05-28 Nis, Serbia

Postby doug » Sat Jun 06, 2009 6:41 am

We got to Nis ok, bike was starting to run a bit rough tho. I dicked around with the points, I think the condenser is going south. Not a big deal, I'll install a new one tomorrow.
I really like Nis. I was 1st here in '04, on my 1st euro trip. I like Serbia alot, once you get past all the bullshit. people are very nice, & lots of pretty girls too look at. Roads arent too good, but better than alot of places. I met my friends here in 04, when I was completely lost & couldnt read cyrillic. I keep wanting them to visit me in the US, but its not easy, because the US is also run by a bunch of idiots who cant tell the difference between politics & people.

we went out to dinner, I really like serbian BBQ, they load platters with all kinds of stuff.

I worked on the bike at Ica's shop. seems the clutch hub nut had backed off, & almost sheared the locking key. it was too bad to reuse, so I made one out of a crankshaft key from an old car.
My 1st russian part of the trip! Installed a new condenser also, but it seems its the top bushing in the distributor thats gone bad, making the points gap a bit dodgy. I greased it up, & emailed Gary in ireland, he is sending me a new one.

Nis also had a german camp during WW2, this was more a prisoner camp, still many people died here. Charlie bribed the caretaker with a bottle of beer, so I was able to take the bike in for a couple pics, & we wandered around a bit.

My good friend Charlie from Nis was in a bike wreck yesterday. As of now, he has a broken back & cant feel his legs, but goes into surgery monday. I know most of you guys dont know him, except for when I visit him & talk about it here . Please keep him in your thoughts, he's a great guy.

Doug
